BELLE VUE skipper Brady Kurtz, team-mate Jason Doyle and manager Mark Lemon will return to Manchester on Bank Holiday Monday as World Champions.
Kurtz captained Australia to an historic Speedway World Cup victory in Warsaw on Saturday, ending the nation’s 24-year wait for gold in that competition.
With the World Cup currently being held on a three-year rotation, it means Australia now hold both major team titles as they also won the Speedway of Nations at Torun last year.
Kurtz scored 11 points from his five rides with Doyle and Ryan Douglas both scoring ten, whilst former Aces racer Max Fricke added seven.
Each of the four Australian riders won their opening outings as they established a lead which they were able to defend when Denmark fought back, and Kurtz officially confirmed the win in Heat 19.
He said: “When I saw the boys come running out after we won, I was pumped. It was something really special. I am so happy to be a part of it.
“I feel like it has been such a long wait for me to be a part of an SWC team. To get this across the line is pretty cool.”
Doyle added: “I am letting it sink in. It’s unbelievable. I have tried for years with Team Australia and to see us do this is something special. I have got goosebumps, and I am trying to process these emotions. It’s amazing.
“Being part of this team and to do what we have done after 24 years … I feel very proud.”
Australia finished eight points in front of Denmark with Poland a further point adrift, and Great Britain were six points behind that after a battling effort led by British Champion Robert Lambert.
Lemon said: “It’s an amazing feeling. I am so proud of what these boys have done and delivered.
“I grew up in an era when Australian speedway dominated, with the likes of Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Todd Wiltshire, Craig Boyce, Jason Lyons and Ryan Sullivan.
“I am so happy that these guys have had the same feeling. We are on top of the world.”
