Belle Vue Speedway joins the rest of British Speedway in expressing our shock and dismay at the news of the potential closure of Wolverhampton Speedway at the end of the 2023 season.
The Monmore Green club have been informed by Entain Group that their tenancy agreement will not be extended beyond the end of the 2023 campaign.
Wolverhampton has a long and proud history in the sport, with Belle Vue having enjoyed a fierce but respectful rivalry with the Wolves and raced them in many exciting on-track encounters.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon has declared Belle Vue’s support of Wolverhampton Speedway and is urging all UK clubs to stand together in unity to fight this issue.
He said: “The news of Wolverhampton’s potential closure at the end of the season has come as a huge shock to everyone involved in the sport in the UK, and to the Speedway going public.
“It is difficult to imagine how such a decision to terminate the tenancy of a club who has raced at Monmore Green for nearly 100 years has been reached.
“Along with our fellow promoters, Belle Vue Speedway is backing Chris Van Straaten and his colleagues as they look to save the club.
“We would also urge supporters to sign the online petition in support of Wolverhampton Speedway’s continuing existence.”
