BELLE Vue youngster Will Cairns is through to the SGP2 (World Under-21) Final series after a brilliant performance in Saturday’s Qualifier in Slovenia.

Cairns, who turns 17 on Monday, scored 14 points at Krsko dropping his only point of the meeting in his first ride to Poland’s Maksymilian Pawelczak.

Three riders finished on 14 points with Pawelczak winning the run-off ahead of former Glasgow racer Villads Nagel and Cairns, who all progress along with Australia’s Beau Bailey.

But there was heartbreak for Tate Zischke who was cruelly denied a run-off for a qualifying place by a mechanical failure at Fjelsted.

Zischke had scored eight points from his opening four races in Denmark and had the inside gate for Heat 17, which was on paper his easiest race of the meeting.

But disaster struck as his machine stopped as the tapes went up, and the retirement ended his hopes of a top four finish.

Cairns moves on to the opening event of the three-round SGP2 series in Malilla, Sweden on July 10.
