BELLE VUE captain Brady Kurtz admitted it was a very tense finale as they finally outgunned King’s Lynn.

The ATPI Aces toiled to overcome their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-off rivals 48-42 at the National Speedway Stadium.

It needed maximum race wins from Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley in heats 13 and 15 to finally seal the deal on a tense night.

Kurtz once again delivered a sublime display with a paid maximum, just 48 hours after his first-ever SGP win in Gorzow.

He admitted: “I don’t remember the last time we went out in heat 15 for the win like that. I was a bit nervous!

“It’s always cool to get a win in the last heat decider. It was a strong performance in the end from the boys.

“We definitely struggled at the start, I’m not sure exactly why. Next week the aim is to get firing from the word go.

“It’s been a tough few weeks, running on empty that’s for sure. I’m definitely looking forward to a couple of days off now.

“A little bit of rest and hopefully I can get back to full fitness.

“I’d like to say the hand is perfect. But it’s just good enough. When I’m on the bike it’s fine. That’s the important part.”

Bewley recovered from an uncharacteristic opening race last to then go unbeaten.

He added: “It was a tough start but we turned it around. I’m not sure if the track caught us out or whether King’s Lynn just had a great start.

“I didn’t particularly feel good to be honest. I was struggling a little bit. But probably everyone was.

“I felt like it was a good track for racing. It took us a few heats to get dialled in.

“They are a kind of a team of all six-pointers, you never know what you are going to get with them.”

The unsung hero of the night was reserve Jake Mulford. He delivered a vital heat 8 victory over Niels-Kristian Iversen just when the chips were down.

He said: “It was a really good race and definitely good for my confidence.

“Considering we haven’t been here for a month, tonight I actually learnt quite a lot. Now I just want to keep pushing on with that form.”

Boss Mark Lemon was clearly a relieved man. But admitted that his ‘Ginger Spice’ top two are different class right now.

He said: “It was a challenging night. The Stars really put on a show. The boys were finding it difficult to get the bikes working. The conditions of the track were fine, it was just different.

“But they worked very hard all night and wore down King’s Lynn.

“We had too many shared heats and not enough heat advantages. That meant we just couldn’t get the edge. That’s unlike us here at home.

“If they’d had Jan Kvech here at reserve it would have maybe been a tougher assignment.

“The Stars are underrated in my opinion. They are capable wherever they go.

“But when you have Dan and Brady in heats 13 and 15 in the form they are in, it always fills you with a lot of confidence. They did the job brilliantly.

“It was just as important that Jake popped out to win heat 8 so dominantly. He rode his butt of all night.”
