BELLE VUE skipper Brady Kurtz is back on home territory this weekend as his World Championship bid continues in Wroclaw.
Kurtz, who was a sensational winner of Round 4 of the Grand Prix series in Manchester a fortnight ago, now leads the standings with this Saturday’s meeting in Poland marking the halfway stage of the campaign.
The Australian rides for Wroclaw in the PGE Ekstraliga, and last August he raced to his fourth successive GP victory there ahead of Bartosz Zmarzlik, Dan Bewley and Jack Holder to set up a title showdown in the final round.
This year it is Kurtz with the advantage, three points ahead of Zmarzlik with a further seven-point gap to Holder.
Kurtz said: “The support I had in Manchester was pretty special. It was a shame that Dan (Bewley) wasn’t there, but hopefully I filled the job as the home rider as best I could.
“I was super-happy with it, it was a really good weekend and it was much needed to really kick on for the rest of the year.
“If you don’t keep making the Finals you don’t stay up at the top in the points, so we’ll just keep plugging away and doing what I normally do, hopefully sneak into the Final and then it’s game on!”
Recent ATPI Aces signing Jason Doyle is also in action at Wroclaw, and he goes into the meeting eighth in the standings, five points off the vital seventh place for automatic 2027 qualification.
Doyle has reached the last chance qualifiers in all four GPs so far this season, but he has yet to make it to a Final.
He has also not reached a Wroclaw Final in seven previous appearances, but he did score 12 GP points there last year.
Kurtz and Doyle will both be back in action for the ATPI Aces when they host Ipswich at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday (June 22). Tickets and hospitality available from https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/tickets .
