REIGNING Premiership Champions Belle Vue delivered a performance worthy of their top flight title to deal Ipswich a hefty 41-49 defeat at Foxhall on Thursday night [April 13].

It was a much-needed pick-me-up for the ATPI Aces after their Bank Holiday misery against Wolverhampton, but they quickly proved that they had put all of that behind them.

In a show of strength unmatched by the Witches, they took control of the meeting almost immediately and, except for the drawn first heat, led from start to finish.

TruMix Witches top guns Jason Doyle and Emil Sayfutdinov seemed to be lacking the support from elsewhere in their team, while the ATPI Aces appeared to have no such problem.

With all riders recording at least one heat win or a minimum paid heat win, there was little the opposition could do to halt the charge of the Premiership champions.

Charles Wright and Jaimon Lidsey led the way in the individual scores with 9+1 each, while heat leaders Brady Kurtz added 9 and British Champion Dan Bewley contributing 8.

Wright said: “This result was exactly what we needed. It’s a fantastic win for the team especially here because Ipswich are very strong at home, but we were stronger.

“There was a lot of communication between the boys all night, from the track walk all the way through to Heat 15 we were sharing information and set ups.

“I think that was one of the major differences compared to previous meetings, and that reflected in our strength in depth; everybody rode well from start to finish.

“It has given us confidence for our next couple of away meetings at Peterborough and Leicester, and a greater feeling of positivity within the team..

“If we can carry this form into our next few meetings and, more importantly, into our home performances, I think we will really start to prove the true potential of this team’s capabilities.”

It’s another busy week for the club next week with two more away fixtures coming on April 17 and 20 against Peterborough and Leicester respectively.

Then, the ATPI Aces continue their Premiership pursuits at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday, April 24 with a visit from the Peterborough Panthers.
