The Belle Vue 'ATPI' Aces continued to pile the pressure on Premiership league leaders Ipswich and Sheffield after they overcame an early meeting scare to secure an impressive 53-37 win over King’s Lynn.
It was another brilliant display from the home team in front of a very enthusiastic crowd, and with the Eurosport cameras in town they delivered another brilliant advert for British Speedway.
The night wasn’t without its challenges for the ATPI Aces, who expected a tough test from the visitors before a wheel had even been turned at the National Speedway Stadium.
The Stars, although depleted, brought with them two very powerful guests in the form of Chris Harris and Charles Wright and quickly set about proving as such right from the word go.
A handful of early heat advantages put them in front after four races and leaving the ATPI Aces with work to do to reel them back in, which they did so with power and panache.
A slick performance by Ben Cook and Jaimon Lidsey in Heat 5 brought the scores back level and though King’s Lynn desperately kept up the pressure, there was no looking back from the home team.
Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley dominated the score charts, collecting 12+1 and 12 respectively while being complimented by an impressive 10 from Ben Cook and 8+1 from Jaimon Lidsey.
Bewley said: “This was a pretty good meeting for the boys. King’s Lynn got off to a pretty decent start but we got dialled in and settled down and things were much better for us after that.
“My first ride was a bit of a non-event. I was trying to slot into second but got filled in and that was pretty much the end of that, but I managed to turn things around after that.
“We expected a tough night, especially when they’ve got riders like Chris Harris guesting at No.2 but I think we showed, again, our capabilities and it was good to get another win at home.
“For me, I feel like my away form has been better than my home form this year so it was a real boost for me to score as well as I did, but I think when you’re having a good time the result reflects that.”
The ATPI Aces take a break from action in the next week before they head to Ipswich on August 22, before returning home for the big double header against Sheffield on Bank Holiday, August 26.
The home leg kicks off in Manchester at 12pm, with meeting tickets, race day programmes south stand parking and hospitality available to pre-book at bellevue-speedway.com/events.
