THE Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts rounded off what has been an incredibly successful season for the club by securing the National League silver medal after beating Sheffield 55-35.
The visitors began their night strongly by taking the early lead at the National Speedway Stadium, but not before the home team quickly responded to level the scores.
It was former Belle Vue Colts top gun, and recently minted Premiership champion Jake Mulford who teamed up with Matt Marson to take the 5-1 that brought them back into it.
A heated deadlock ensued with both sides refusing to budge, until a succession of heat advantages to the Cool Running Colts secured both the aggregate point, and the win on the night.
Injury returnee Chad Wirtzfeld blitzed the score charts with 16+2 from seven rides, closely followed by Sam Hagon with 13 while Jake Mulford finished his season with a 12-point maximum.
Hagon said: “It’s fantastic for us to finish the season on such a high. I’m so proud to have been a part of this team and I think after all the work we put in we deserve our silver medal.
“It’s a shame that there weren’t play offs in the NDL because I honestly believe that, with the way we’re riding, we could’ve gone to Leicester and emulated the Aces and won the league.
“But like I said, we can be very proud of what we achieved and to finish with such a huge win over Sheffield was just what we wanted to do but it wasn’t without its challenges.
“In the first couple of races conditions were a little more tricky and I was off with the set-up but I managed to sort things out and end strongly.”
Belle Vue’s 2024 Speedway season has now concluded, with the club set to celebrate another fantastic season on October 26 with their end-of-season party, The Maugers 2024.
