Belle Vue’s National Development League team is now complete, with Matt Marson returning to the Belle Vue Colts in 2024 along with Mancunian newcomer Chad Wirtzfeld.
They join Sam Hagon, Freddy Hodder, Harry McGurk, Luke Muff and Jack Shimelt at the National Speedway Stadium for the upcoming league campaign commencing in the spring.
Like his team mate Muff, Marson had spent three seasons with Mildenhall before joining up with the Cool Running colts last year in what he hoped would be a strategic career move.
And while he got to grips with the Belle Vue circuit he proved instrumental in the team’s powerful form outside of Manchester, and he is determined to bring that form to the North West this year.
20-year-old Wirtzfeld has seen action on the shale in limited amounts, appearing briefly for the Isle of Wight in 2019 and Eastbourne in 2021, before the club closed mid-season.
Since then, he has devoted much of his time to the Grasstrack and Long Track scene but recently felt the urge to return to Speedway in what will be his first full NDL season.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “I think we can be more than pleased with the septet we have put together for this year’s National Development League campaign.
“Matt was one of those who we were very keen to see return to Manchester this year, and with a full year of racing the NSS under his belt I’m sure we can count on even bigger things from him.
“Although Chad has not ridden Speedway much in the last two seasons, the skills he has picked up from Grasstrack and Long Track will transfer very nicely onto the shale.
“He’s a young man with a lot of potential and talent and, more importantly for us, he wanted to join the Colts.
“This year will be a big test for him on his return to the shale, but Chad has all the right ingredients to do well.
“The emphasis in this league is very much on development and we’re excited to have such a spirited bunch of lads racing in our colours in 2024.”
