BELLE VUE boss Mark Lemon admitted he was “pretty happy” despite defeat at Leicester.

The ATPI Aces fought back from 10 points down to force a last heat decider in the East Midlands on Thursday night.

Dan Bewley and Brady Kurtz hit the front but home No.1 Max Fricke forced his way past his fellow Aussie Kurtz.

That also allowed Luke Becker into third and that was enough to ensure a Lions 46-44 victory.

Lemon said: “It was a tough night as far as casualties and action on the track.

“To come away from Leicester with that result we are pretty happy.

“We were in a position in heat 15 of winning the meeting at one point.

“The final race was two GP boys out there going hammer and tongs. That’s what you expect. There was a lot riding on it.

“Obviously Max didn’t want to let his team down. It’s racing, we’ll come back and fight another day.

“We had the earlier incident with Luke Becker and Norick Boldorn and thankfully Norick got up OK.

“We knew coming here tonight was not going to be easy.”

The ATPI Aces trailed by 26-16 after seven heats as the home side took advantage of the favourable gate positions.

But Blodorn picked himself up from a nasty crash in heat for a 5-1 with Jake Mulford. The German then delivered another maximum with Kurtz in heat 11 to close the gap to two points.

However the Lions held on with four successive 3-3s to take the victory.
