SUNDAY PREVIEW: ACADEMY INDIVIDUAL + BRITSH YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
Belle Vue Press Office

BELLE Vue stage a bumper 35-race meeting on Sunday (1pm) with the stars of the future on show.

The club welcome back several former Colts favourites along with more rising stars of the National Development League to contest the JR Ashworth & Sons Colts Academy Individual.

That event will be run in conjunction with the 500cc and 250cc sections of the British Youth Championship, with the races between all three categories being interspersed to ensure a rapid programme of action.

Former Colts skipper Freddy Hodder is amongst the competitors in the Academy Individual, and he will go up against the likes of Jordy Loftus, Ace Pijper and Ryan Ingram who all have places in the Championship league this season

For youngsters Harry Fletcher, Ollie Binns and Stene Pijper it is set to be an exceptionally busy day as they compete not only in the Academy Individual but also in the 500cc British Youth Championship!

This week marks ten years since the first speedway meeting at the National Speedway Stadium, where Dan Bewley scored an 18-point maximum for the Colts against Mildenhall.

And co-boss Graham Goodwin has stressed that Bewley’s ultimate rise to the top of the sport underlines the importance of giving track time to, and supporting, developing riders.

He said: “In the past week we’ve seen Dan help Great Britain into the final of the Speedway World Cup, score a maximum in the opening round of the Grand Prix, going on to claim second place overall, and then put in an epic display to help the Aces see off Northampton in the Premiership.

“Again it shows where any of today’s riders could be in a few years’ time, and highlights why we must support the future of British Speedway in every way possible, and why meetings like today are so important.

“As always, Neil Vatcher is doing a sterling job with the British Youth Championship, with the country’s best riders aged 16 and under on show.”

Turnstiles will open at midday with the parade at 12.55 ahead of the opening race. Admission prices will be set at regular Colts levels – Adults £15, Concessions £13, Junior (12-17) £6, Children (11 and under) Free, Family £36, Programme £2.
