BELLE VUE Rising Star Will Cairns has reflected on a memorable birthday weekend which featured three big performances in three different countries.

Cairns turned 17 on Monday and just two days earlier he booked his place in the SGP2 (World Under-21) series with a superb 14-point score in his qualifying round in Slovenia.

He now knows the full list of rivals he will face in the three-round competition, where he will be the UK’s only representative, and it gets underway in Sweden at Malilla on July 10.

The following day he was racing in the Polish Ekstraliga for Zielona Gora against Lubin, and a race win in Heat 4 saw him defeat former World No.2 Fredrik Lindgren before he went on to score 4+1.

Cairns said: “To qualify for the SGP2 was my main goal, and then to score paid five in the Ekstraliga was great.

“A few people have asked me what my goals are now, now that I’ve completed most of my goals, but I couldn’t tell you!

“I’m just going to ride the wave as they say, and take it step by step, round by round and see where we end up.”

The final meeting of the trio came on his birthday at the National Speedway Stadium, with Cairns scoring 7+2 in another impressive win over King’s Lynn on Monday.

That represented his best score so far in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership, and the first time he had scored in every ride, along with a first race win at this level in Heat 2.

Cairns said: “It’s been a bit of a tough season for me at Belle Vue so far, and I just feel like I’ve found my feet a bit, and found some more confidence.

“I’ve kicked the ball, I just need to keep it rolling! Obviously I’m still so young and I’ve got so much to learn.

“I’m just trying to pick up little bits from Jason (Doyle) and Brady (Kurtz), it’s so difficult.”

The ATPI Aces’ next fixture is their first ever trip to newcomers Northampton on Thursday July 9. The Foxes then visit the National Speedway Stadium on Monday July 13, with tickets and hospitality available from https://www.bellevue-speedway.com/tickets .
